EAGLE NECK AIRPARK

We were moving to the Savannah, GA area. Not sure of which area we wanted, the search began. We looked north, east, and west. Then someone told my husband about a fly-in community south of the city. One day he drove to Eagle Neck subdivision. I can't say I've ever seen a grown man salivate over huge concrete buildings (airplane hangars)! He told me about the neighborhood and scheduled a day to see it.
I remember driving south on I-95 for a ways, getting off the highway and meandering along the country road for about 5 minutes. The road opens onto the marsh on both sides and the neighborhood is tucked back in the curve of the road. You instantly know you're in an aviation community by the name and sign -Eagle Neck. Drive down the road and come upon the sign, Warning: Aircraft has right of way (that's not a sign in the driver handbook!)

He drove me around the neighborhood admiring the green foliage and beautiful large, old live oaks. The commons area is very picturesque with its live oaks, oleander, and large grasses. The pool, tennis court, and playground would be enticing for our children and grandchildren. The one acre lots gave you some elbow room. We met some people who lived there - ever friendly, offering us a bottle of water. We drove along the roads (Hammerhead Way, Slow Roll Way, etc and looked for the aviation clues to the end of the bend in the road revealing the RUNWAY. If you're a pilot, the paved, lighted almost 4000 feet of runway is mesmerizing. He was ready to promise just about anything to be a part of this neighborhood and aviation lifestyle. Since, I didn't want to see a grown man cry, I consented to buying into Eagle Neck and joining the aviation lifestyle....

Halloween Hay Ride

One of our favorite times of the year in Eagle Neck is Halloween.
The children and grandchildren of the subdivision are invited to meet at the commons area and get introduced to all of the dressed up characters (adults and children). Then we load up the hayride and it's off to trick or treat! It's fun for all as we visit on the wagon and chat with our neighbors and we pull up to each home that has their light on. Homeowners are excited to see the children dressed up and welcome us with treats.

The Marsh

Marshes are part of nature I was not used to seeing. When we moved to the Savannah area, marshy areas were everywhere. At first, I didn't know what to think of the tall brown or green (depending on which season it is) grasses; over time, I have come to truly appreciate them for their natural beauty. We have taken some amazing pictures that will awe you with the landscape.

Flowers Abound

We love to plants flowers and trees and shrubs and palms and......
It is wonderful to have certain times of the year each plant will make its entrance!
